According to The History and Antiquities of the Counties of Westmorland & Cumberland, Vol. II, p. 22, Sir John Hudleston, knt., was the son Adam, son of John, son of Richard, son of Reginald, son of Nigel, son of Richard, son of another Richard, son of John, son of Adam, son of Adam de Hodelston in the county of York, with the last five named living before the conquest.

Sir John Hudleston1 knight, at the time of his married with Joan1, was lord of Anneys in Millum. In the 20th year of Edward I, before Hugh Cressingham justice itinerant, it was proved that he had jura regalia with the seigniory of Millum, and his plea therein was allowed. He was followed by his son, John2, who died unmarried.

Sir Richard Hudleston2, Knight, followed. He married Alice, daughter of Richard Troughton in 13 Ed. II and had issue Sir John Hudleston3.
