Hugh Poyntz son and heir, born 25 August 1252, was a knight before 1 May 1273. Having done homage, he had order for seisin 3 March 1273/4. He was summoned for service in Wales, 1277, 1282, 1283, 1287, and 1294. Among tenants of lands worth £20 and more yearly, he was summoned for foreign service in 1297; and, from that year until 1306, summoned regularly for service against the Scots. He was summoned to the Assembly at Shrewsbury, 1283; and to Parliament from 24 June 1295 to 26 August 1307, by writs directed Hugoni Poynz, whereby he is held to have become Lord Poyntz. In 1298, he was member of a commission to inquire into organised felonies in Somerset, Dorset and Devon. He died shortly before 4 January 1307/8.
