Miguel Chaves, about 26, español, was the legitimate son of Domingo Chaves and Augustina Padilla, citizens of San Andrés d los Padillas in the Isleta jurisdiction. María Lucía Montoya, 19, española, was the legitimate daughter of José Antonio García and María Montoya, both citizens of los Padillas. The couple knew of an impediment of consanguinity, but claimed not to know in what degree. Miguel Chaves stated that he had deprived María Lucía of her virginity and that she had had a child, which was generally known.

Father José Ignacio Sánchez could not locate the baptismal records for the couple in Isleta and therefore took testimony from Santiago Trujillo and Victoria Chaves, who were the padrinos of Miguel Chaves. Trujillo said the even took place in 1760, although he did not recall the month.

Bárbara Montoya and her late husband Antonio Chaves were padrinos for María Lucía García. She stated that her baptism took place in Tomé with fray Joaquín Ruiz officiating.
