The name Maldonado, at least those who married and left descendants, does not appear in New Mexico before 1720. It seems that the name Maldonado is used by the decednants of Juan Montaño and his second wife, Ygnacia Lucero.

Juan married María Lucía Jaramillo, daughter of Gregorio Varela Jaramillo and María Francisca Silva, on 26 Jan 1755 in San Felipe de Neri, Alburquerque, Nuevo Méjico, Nueva España. (María Lucía Jaramillo was born in 1742.)
