The family of Peshale took its name from the lordship and seat of Peshale in the parish of Eccleshall, Staffordshire, England. Guilbert, the younger son of Richard, Earl of Corbeil, in Normandy (who accompanied William, the Conqueror, in his expedition into England) by Isabel, sister and coheir of Hugh de Loup (Lupus), Earl of Chester, and daughter of Richard, Count of Avranches, in Normandy, by Emma, daughter of Herlain & Arolotte, daughter of Fulbert de Crey, and mother to William the Conqueror, had issue, Robert, who, for his attachment to Robert de Stafford, and the King's service in these parts, as also ratione confanguinitatis, held Peshale, with it appurtences, annon 1068, by service of a Knight's fee.
