• Background Information. 1547
Christopher Strutt was born probably about 1560-1562 and was buried at Rattlesden, Suffolk, 16 Feb 1627/8. He first married, at Rattlesden, 14 Jul 1590, Anne Waller, who was baptized there, 8 Feb 1561/2, and buried there 22 Jul 1611. Shortly after this, Christopher remarried a woman named Susan who bore him one child.

It is likely that Christopher Strutt was the son of Robert Strutt, the elder of Rattlesden who was buried there, 4 Aug 1599. Possibly the Agnes Strutt who was buried there, 5 Sep 1583 was Robert's wife. Other Strutts in Rattlesden records at the time were probably the siblings of Christopher. They were: Susan Strutt, married 24 Jul 1593, John Pearle and buired 1 Sep 1595; Robert Strutt married 20 Jun 1591 to Susan Baker; William Strutt, buried 20 Jan 1604/5, married to Alice; and Ottiwell Strutt, who died in 1592 and married Susan Waller, sister of Anne.

Christopher Strutt made his will on 27 Mar 1627 at Duxhall, which is the parish next to Rattlesden on the east [Court of Archdeconry of Sudbury, Mason R2/54/133]. He called himself "yeomen, week in body," and requested that he be buried in the church or churchyard of Buxhall (which was evidently not done). He bequeathed "40s. for the poor in the place where I am buried . . . to Susan Strutt my wife my tenement in Buxhall wherein I now dwll, with all the land meadow and pasture thereunto belonging for life . . . to Grace Strutt my daughter all that tenement wherein John Munson now swelleth situate in Rattlesden, together with the orchard . . . to Benjamin Strutt my son all those my lands, meadow & pasture in Rattlesden at age 21 . . . executors to receive rent from same for payment of debts and educationg of said son until he comes of age and if need require to sell three or four acres . . . to Susan Locwood the wife of John Lockwood £10 to be paid by son Benjamin within two years after he reaches 21 . . . to Grace Strutt my daughter £20 to be paid by son Benjamin, £10 of it within four years after he comes to age 21, and the other £10 within six years . . . to Elizabeth Scott the wife of Thomas Scott 12d. to be paid by son Benjamin within three years after he is age 21 in full satisfaction of her childs portion . . . to Benjamin Strutt my son my tenement in Buxhall wherein I now dwell after the decease of Susan my wife . . . if Benjamin died before age 21, then this tenement to Susan Lockwood . . . to Grace Strutt my daughter my meadow and pasture in Rattlesden if my son Benjamin died before age 21 without heirs of his body . . . to Benjamin one of my beast featherbeds & one cupboard . . . to Grace Strutt my daughter one featherbed . . . reidue to Susan my wife and Richard Raynesham whom I ordain joint executors."
Signed by a mark, witnessed by Bryan Parker, clerk & Robert Strutt and proved 9 Apr 1628.
