Tomás de Mestas was described as a native of New Mexico, twenty-two or twenty-three years old and a widower, having a medium stature and broad shoulders, with a long face, very small eyes, wavy, chestnut hair, and no beard'97or rather, a very scanty red beard. With him were his mother and brothers. He is not heard of again.
