It is believed that the progenitor of the House of Quiros came from Greece during in the 9th century. This man was called Constantino de Quirós. He is said to have married doña Galinda Bernardo, daughter of Bernardo del Carpio, granddaughter of conde Sancho Díaz Saldaña and Infanta doña Ximena, sister of King don Alonso el Casto and granddaughter of Fruela I and his wife doña Muñia. His son was Bernardo de Quirós who married doña Galinda and served King Alonso III, the Great in 876 until 900.

Ximénez Bernardo do Quirós, the third lord of the House of Quirós, a wealthy man of Castile, was the Captain General of King García's armies in 913. He was succeeded by conde Bernardo Ximénez de Quirós, the fourth lord and conde de León who served King Ordoño and doña Fruela II. His successor was Gutierre Bernardo de Quirós, fifth lord, who served both Kings Alfonso IVand Ramiro II.

The sixth lord of the house of Quirós was Gonzalo Bernaldo de Quirós. Gonzalo served both King Ordoño II and Sancho I. Gonzalo Bernardo González de Quiró was the seventh lord, and he was followed by the eighth lord, don Gonzalo Bernardo de Quirós.

The ninth lord of casa de Quirós, was don Ximéno Bernardo de Quirós. He served King Alonso VI as well as the king's daughter doña Urraca when she had contentions with her husband, King Alonso de Aragón. Ximéno Bernardo's sons were: don Gutierre Bernardo, the tenth lord; and don Suero Ximénez Bernardo de Quirós.
