Richard Flegg was born in shipdham about 1525. When his father died in about 1550, he succeed as the eldest son to inherit considerable property.

The church wardes' account to Shipdham show that Richard Flegg was chosen a church warden, 9 Feb 1561/62. In a list of "principal inhabitants: of the parish in 1576, his name appears as "Rycherd Flegge."

His will was dated 16 May 1587. He asked to be buried in the church yeard there. He left to his wife Margaret, the use of the parlour and chamber, the profits of two good milch cows to kept by their son Richard, and 20 shillings a year. He left the bulk of his land and property to his son Richard. William Leverington, Senior, William Leverington, Junior, William Flegg, and William Platfoote were witnesses of his will. The will was proved by the executor on 28 May 1590.

Richard Flegg, Senior, was buried in Shipdham on 22 May 1590. His wife Margaret was buried in Shipdham 12 March 1588/9.
