Isabel de Vermandois, was the daughter of Adelaide de Vermandois and Hugh Magnus II, Duke of France and Burgundy, Marquis of Orleans, Count of Amiens, Chaumont, Paris, Valois and Vermandois & a leader of the first Crusade. Isabel married first, Sir Robert de Beaumont, Lord of Beaumont, Port-Audemer and Brionne, Count of Meulan, created Earl of Leicester, Companion of William the Conqueror at Hastings 1066, son of Roger de Beaumont and Adelise, dauhter of Walera, Count of Melan. Isabel's second husband was Willaim de Warenne, second earl of Surrey, son of William de Warenne and Gundred sister of Gerbod the Fleming, Earl of Chester.

Orderic Vitalis records that in 1096 "Hugo Crispeii comes" placed "Radulfo et Henrico filiis suis" in charge of his land, married "Ysabel filiam suam" to "Rodberto de Mellento comiti", and left on pilgrimage taking "secum nobile agmen Francorum" [Orderic Vitalis (Prévost), Vol. III, Liber VII, IV, p. 480]. Guillaume of Jumièges records that "secundus Willelmus de Warenna comes Surreiæ...tertius Willelmus filius eius" was born to "Elizabeth filia Hugonis Magni comitis Viromandorum", who had first married "Roberto comiti Mellenti" by whom she had "tres filios et totidem filias" [Willelmi Gemmetencis Historiæ (Duchesne, 1619), Liber VIII, XL, p. 278].
