The eldest son of Richard Banges was John Banges. The chancery suit of Bangs vs. Pendleton says that "John Banges, son and heir of Richard Banges, late of the city of Norwich, tanner, deceased," 21 Nov 1586. John was probably born about 1560 in Norwich, and married soon aster his father's death, about 1587 or 1588. In 1590, John and his wife sold a certain property in the parishes of St. Marteu and St. Mary, Coslaney, to Nicholas Palmer, and leave the area.

In 1596 and 1600, the records at Chelmsford "Liber Actium" show that John Banges was church warden at Hempstead, and John Luddington the vicar. This John Banges was the father of Edward Banges.

John's will states his desire not to be buried by the side of his parents or ancestors, but by the side of his two children. This indicates that he was not native of Hempstead. He was a resident for many years after he moved there.

John was from the hardy, self reliant class of Englishmen, the yeomanry, who have been the bulwark of Anglo-Saxon liberties. He was a member of the church of England with puritanical leanings. He was a man of education and character as a layman would have to be in order to hold the position of warden in the church.

John Banges left each of his sons forty pounds apiece. He left his wife certain lands and houses. He died at Hempstead 11 Feb 1632, and he was buried in the church yard there. His wife, Jane, died shortly after.
