De Wikipedia en espańol: Bermudo I de Asturias was the son of Fruela de Cantabria, Bermudo was brother of King Aurelio of Asturias, nephew of Alfonso I and grandson of Duke Pedro de Cantabria. He was assigned by his father to the ecclesiastical career.

Bermudo was elected king by the nobles in 789 to replace King Mauregato on the throne, an illegitimate son that Alfonso I had with a Muslim slave.

After his abdication, he returned to his clerical state and lived in the court of his successor, Alfonso II, who recovered the crown, where he died of natural death in 797 and went down in history as a generous, magnanimous and enlightened king.

He was married to Ozenda (Adosinda), who in the chronicles of Rodrigo de Toledo and Lucas de Tuy is called Imilo or Nunilo. They were parents of:

Ramiro I of Asturias (c. 790-850) who occupied the throne of Asturias at the death of King Alfonso II.
