García Fernández of Castile was son of Count Fernán González and queen Sancha Sánchez of Pamplona. In about 960, García married Ava of Ribagorza, daughter of Raymond II, count of Ribagorza. Their children were:

Sancho García, count of Castilla, married to
• Urraca Gómez, daughter of Gómez Díaz.
Gonzalo García, possibly the origin of the lineage of the Saviors and the House of Lara.
• Urraca García, first abbess in the collegiate church of San Cosme and San Damián de Covarrubias.
• Toda García, married to Sancho Gómez, son of Count Gómez Díaz.
Elvira García, who married Bermudo II de León.
• Mayor García, married to Ramón III de Pallars Jussà. Repudiated by her husband, perhaps for reasons of kinship, she sustained herself in an area of her county until, around 1025. She was forced to return to Castile, where she was abbess-countess in the monastery of San Miguel de Pedroso.
• Oneca García, first abbess in the monastery of San Juan in Cillaperlata and later abbess of the monastery of San Salvador de Oña.

Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands García Fernández de Castilla was the son of Fernando González conde de Castilla and his first wife Sancha Sánchez de Navarra. "Comes Fredinandus Gundisalviz cum uxore mea Sanzia comitissa et cum filiis meis Gundisalvus Fredinandi et Garsea Fredinandi et Sancio Fredinandi et Munio Fredinandi et domna Fronilde" donated the monastery of San Miguel de Javilla to San Pedro de Cardeñas by charter dated 941 [San Pedro de Cardeña, 34, p. 62]. García married Ava de Ribagorza, the daughter of Raimundo II, conde de Ribagorza and his wife Gersende de Fezensac. The Codex de Roda names "Regemundo ac domno Galindo seu domna Aba" as the children of "Uernardus" and his wife [Lacarra, J. M. 'Textos navarros del Códice de Roda', Estudios de Edad Media de la Corona de Aragón Vol. I (Zaragoza, 1945) 26, p. 246]. The end 13th century "Crònica d´Alaó Renovada" records that "Ova filia Regimundi" married "comitis Sanctii de Castella" (error for García) [D´Abadals i Vinyals, R. (2009) Els Comtats de Pallars i Ribagorça, Catalunya Carolíngia, Vol. III (Barcelona), Part 1, 24, and Fragmentum historicum, Ex cartulario Alaonis, España Sagrada XLVI, XXXVI, p. 325]."

García married Ava de Ribagorza, daughter of Ramón Conde de Ribagorza and Garsende de Fézensac, about 958-961. (Ava de Ribagorza died after 995 and was buried in San Pedro de Cerdaña.)
