John Dowsett, of Stanford Rivers, Essex, England, was born abt. 1480-1486 in the parish of Kelvedon Hatch which is two miles southeast of Stanford Rivers, and died about Feb 1529/30. What is known of him comes from his will [ERO, 57ER4]. He had two wives who predeceased him, and was survived by his third wife, Alice ____ who was probably the mother of his last four children. John along with his mother, was named the co-executor of the will of his father in 1486.

In his own will, dated 23 Jan 1529/30 and proved 15 Mar 1529/30, John Dowsett of Stanford Rivers in Essex, being sick, requested burial in the churchyard of Stanford, and left to the high alter for tythes forgotten 3s.4d. He also left 10s. for a priest to sing a trental of masses for his soul.
