• Background Information. 916
Henry was son and heir of Sir Matthew de Redmayne. In 1267 he received a grant of free warren in Levens, Yealand and Trenterne. [Dodsworth MSS., 159, f. 181] His son appears in 1292, the second of the Sir Matthew de Redmayne, claiming free warren of the same land [Placita de quo War', a. R. Edward I., vicesimo-rot.6, dorso]. There are few records to supply information about Henry de Redmayne. He appears to have also had a son Henry, who as "Henry, son of Henry Redmayne," was among the benefactors of Cokersand Abbey in 1300 [MSS. of W.C. Strikcland, Esq. of Sizergh].

In that same year, Henry de Redmayne figures on the roll of the Earl of Essex and Hereford, containing the proffers of military service made at Carlisle. It is also possible that Thomas de Redmayne, who in an inquistion dated 1307, was another son of Henry de Redmayne, and brother of the second Sir Matthew. It is also very probable that Henry de Redman, son of Matthew, married an heiress of Camberton.
