• Dates & Events: 153 “Reverend John Mayo was born while Elizabeth I was Queen, and a boy during the reign of James I, he went to Magdalen College, Oxford University, in 1615, but did not graduate. He wed and had all his children in Northamptonshire. He was a protestant preacher in a time when the harassed celery were obliged to disguise themselves and to use assumed names. The whole family came to the Colonies in 1635 aboard the "Truelove" from London.”

• Background Information. 62 Mayo is an Irish name, but Rev. John Mayo was born and educated in England. He was ordained a teaching elder in connection with Rev. John Lothrop in Barnstable, Massachusetts. He was made a freeman in 1640, and moved to Eastham. He took charge of the church there until 1655. From 1655 to 1673, he was at the North church in Boston. Due to old age, he returned to Eastham and Yarmouth to be with his children inhis later years. He died at Yarmouth, May 1676.

• Background Information. 147 Rev. John Mayo, emigrated to Barnstable in 1639. He was a teacher there until 1644, when he moved to Eastham, where he was the Pastor there until 1655. Next, he was the pastor of the second church in Boston until 1673, when he was discharged on account of old age. He died in Yarmouth, 1676. His children who were born before they immigrated to the Americas were:
Samuel, married Thamisine Hannah, who married Nathaniel Bacon of Barnstable, 1642 Nathaniel, married Hannah Prence in 1650, and died in 1662 John, married Hannah Lacraft in 1651, and died about 1766 Elisabeth, married Joseph Homes of Yarmouth in 1701
