The manuscript history of the founders of Gisburne Priory records that "Petrus de Bruse primus filius…Adæ" succeeded his father, died "1211 XVI Kal Feb" and was buried "apud Gysburghe" [Dugdale Monasticon VI, Gysburn Priory, Yorkshire, III, Fundatorum Historia, p. 268]. He succeeded his father as Lord of Skelton. "Petrus de Brus" paid a fine to exchange "villas de Berdeseya et de Colingham et de Rington" for "villa de Daneby cum…foresta de Daneby" which "Rex H." had taken from "Ade de Brus patri ipsius Petri", dated to 1200 [ Duffus Hardy, T. (1835) Rotuli de Oblatis et Finibus in Turri Londinensi (London), Rotuli de Oblatis, 2 John, p. 109]. Brown states that Peter [II] de Brus confirmed liberties at Walton, granted by "his mother the lady Iveta", to the canons of Helagh Park, by undated charter [Brown´The Brus Cenotaph at Guisborough´, p. 245, citing Chartulary of Helagh Park, Cotton MSS. Ve-p. A., iv.54b]. The Red Book of the Exchequer records "Petrus de Brus" holding 11 knights´ fees "de honore de Skeltone" in Yorkshire in (1210/12) [Red Book Exchequer, Part II, Inquisitiones…Regis Johannis…anno regno XII et XIII…de servitiis militum, p. 490]. The obituary of Gisburne priory records the death "XVI Kal Feb" of "Petri de Brus primi" [Collectanea Topographica et Genealogica, Vol. IV (1837), Ex Calendario…Prioratui de Gisburna, p. 261].


Piers married Joan le Grammarie, daughter of Richard le Grammarie and Unknown.160 (Joan le Grammarie was born about 1172 in Knottington, Yorkshire, England.)
