In a charter of Gervase de Cornhill during the reign of Henry II, Ralph fitz Herlwin is mentioned as his uncle. Ralph Fitz Herlwin was in 1130 joint-Sheriff of London. [Ninth Report Hist. MSS, App. i. pp. 20a, 64a]. Ralph could not be Gervase's father, Roger's brother since he is always written as "Roger nepos Huberti," and Ralph was always written as "Ralph Fitz Herlwin". Ralph was the brother of Roger's wife.
