• Background Information.
John, who was still underage at the time of their father's death. John was alive in 1330, but it appears that he was succeeded by the next oldest son, Thomas, who likely died before 38 Edward III, when we find his son, the second Edmund, in controversey with Robert son of Gilbert Ruyshton respecting the right to the manor of Ruyshton.

• Background Information. 934
Sir Edmund Talbot, Knight of Bashall, was born about 1329, and is said to have served in the war in France in 1348, although probably not then of age. He was knighted at the Capitulation of Calais in that same year [Foster, Feudal Arms & Ped., p. 189].
In 1354, Robert de Rishton was plaintiff against Edmund Talbot defendant, son of Thomas Talbot, for the manor of Rishton [Rec.Soc. of Linc. & Ches., v. viii, p. 364]. Later Sir Edmund Talbot served under the "Black Prince" in his campaign in France and in 1367, he fought in the battle of Navaretta.

Sir Edmund died in 1373. [Vist. Yorks, 1666, p. 238]. His wife was Margery, daughter of Sir John Byron, Knight of Clayton, Lancashire [His. Whalley, v. ii, p. 500] Their children were:

Thomas, b. abt. 1355, son and heir
Richard, b. abt 1357; progenitor of the Talbots of Slaidburn.
William, b. abt. 1360, whose son, John Talbot was the progenitor of the Talbots of Salebury, Lancashire and the Talbots of Carr, Blackburn, Lancashire. It is from John that Peter Talbot, who emigrated to New England abt. 1675, was descended from.
Henry, granted an annity of 20 marks for life on 15 Oct 1398, which was confirmed 16 Sep 1400 [Pat. Rolls, I Hen. Iv, pt. 8, m.3]
