"Adela of Normandy was, by marriage, Countess of Blois, Chartres, and Meaux. She was a daughter of William the Conqueror and Matilda of Flanders. She married Stephen Henry, son and heir to the count of Blois, between 1080. and 1083, around her fifteenth birthday. She was also the mother of Stephen, King of England and Henry of Blois, Bishop of Winchester."

Orderic Vitalis names "Adelizam et Constantiam, Ceciliam et Adalam" as the daughters of "Willermus Normanniæ dux" and his wife "Mathildem Balduini ducis Flandrensium filiam, neptem...ex sorore Henrici regis Francorum" [Orderic Vitalis (Prévost), Vol. II, Liber III, VI, p. 92]. Orderic Vitalis records the betrothal "apud Bretolium" of "Stephanus Blesensis palatinus comes" and "Guillelmo rege...Adelam eius filiam" and their marriage "apud Carnotum", dated to 1081 [Orderic Vitalis (Prévost), Vol. II, Liber V, XI, p. 393].
