Sir John Southworth, of Samesbury, which estate he inherited upon the death of his father Sir Thomas, in 1546. Sir John was High Sheriff of the County in 1562. He was imprisoned in New Fleet, Manchester, as a Popish recusant, 1584. He died on 3 Nov 1595. His great, great grandson, Edward Southworth, Esq. was the last of the Southworths of Samlesbury, parting with his estate by sale in 1676.
