Alice was the heiress of her father Roger de Berkeley. She married Maurice, upon the insistence of king Henry II of England as a way to reconcile Roger de Berkely and the new Lord of Berkeley, Robert Fitz Harding. They agreed that the heiress of the ousted lord should be given in marriage to the heir of the new baron.

Alice founded the religious house called Magdalen's, near Bristol, and was it patroness. She died at an "extreame old age. Alice died on 12 March, 1170 or 1171, and was buried beside her husband between the stalls of the Abbot and the Prior of the Abbey of St. Augustine in Bristol.

Alice married Maurice I "the make peace" de Berkeley, son of Robert "the Devout" Fitz Harding and Prioress Eve of Bristol.141 (Maurice I "the make peace" de Berkeley was born about 1120 in Berkeley, Gloucester, England,141 died on 16 Jun 1190 in England 141 and was buried in Brentford, Middlesex, England 141.)
