Sir John was the son and heir of Sir Thomas Booth, of Barton, by Ellen, daughter of Robert de Workesley, son and heir of John Booth, living in the reign of King Edward, by Agnes, daughter and heir of Gilbert de Barton, Lord of Barton, near Eccles, Lancashire.
