Hamon Fitz Hamon Dapifer and Sheriff of Kent

Hamon-aux-Dents, or "with the teeth," was killed in the battle of Val-ès-Dunes in 1045. he left two sons, the eldest, Hamo or Hamon, who became Dapifer to King William, and the second Robert, both of whom subscribed a charter of the Conqueror to the Abbey of St. Denis, at Paris. Robert seems to have died without liegitimate issue before the Domesday survey was made. Hamo, the Dapifer, was sheriff of Kent, and one of the judges in the case between Lanfranc and Odo, Bishop of Bayeus. He had two sons, of whom the eldest, Robert fitz Hamon is the better known. Robert was a prominent figure during the reigns of Rufus and Henry I. He was the founder of Tewkesbury and the father of Mabel, wife of Robert de Caen, Earl of Gloucester.
