bullet  Information about this person:

• Background Information. 1136
Jacob or James Leager, of Hadleigh, Suffolk, was likely born before 1540 and is doubtless the "Jeames Legas, alian" who was taxed there in the subsidy of 1457/8. He is called "Jacobe Leagar" in the baptismal record of his son Isaac. As he is termed an alien, he was probably a native of Holland or Flanders, since many Dutch and Flemish emigrats connected with the cloth industry settled in eastern England during the sixteenth century. As "Jacobe Legare," he was buried at Hadleigh 4 Jun 1592. He was married to a woman named Elizabeth who was buried at Hadleigh, a widow, on 24 Nov 1592.
