Payne of Hemingford built a stone manorial complex in Hemingford Grey in Huntingdonshire. Payn de Hemingford held two estates at Hemingford, one of Aubrey de Vere and the other of the abbot of Ramsey. Payn was sheriff of this and two other counties under King Stephen.

Ralf son of Osmund was succeeded by his son Payne de Hemingford who endowed the Priory of St. Melan at Hatfield Broadoak, Essex, with tithes from Hemgford and Yelling and was owning the service of a knight in 1166. Payne likely died shortly after this date, when Nichola, daughter of his son William was granted in marriage by henry II to William Ruffus, the King's servant.
