• Family Background. 938
The family name of Parr is derived from a manor and towship in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire, where the family were seated for several centuries. It is not known when they first settled there, or when the name was first assumed. Parr is not noticed in Domesday or in the Testa de Nevill.

The first record relating to the name of a place named Parr is dated 35 Edward III, or 1361, being the Inq. p. m. of William de Darce, by which he found to have held the manors of Skelmersdale, Whiston, Speke, and Parre, with the advowson of Prescot. The first time the surname Parr appears is at least as early as during the reign of Edward II, and the name of "Henry de Parr" occurs as a witness to a deed dated in the twelfth of that monarch's reign or 1318l After this period, the name frequently shows up in Lancashire records.
