Roger Davenport of Davenport, who married Mary, daughter of Robert Salemon of Wythington with whom her husband had a moiety of Wythington, also a part of Tunstede and Wultroke (Wheltrough).

By an inquisition taken before Reginald de Gray, 16 year of Edward I (1288), it was found that Roger de Davenport held his sergeancy in the Hundred of Macclesfield in the Back et. at., and that he shall find eight segeants (one a horseman) to keep the peace, who shall come at the king's summons, at their own cost in the country, and at the king's cost when they shall have passed the Dee, or gone out of the county. The same Roger, in 1248, witnessed a deed of Alexander Wythington. He seems to have died in 1291.

Roger de Davenport was likely an adult during the 1240s. He likely died between 1291-1297. He married mar Salemon or Slmon, who died before 1201. She was the daughter of Robert Salmon of Wythington, in Macclesfield Hundred, Cheshire, England. Roger received a moiety of the whole vill of Withington, and the services, reliefs and ward of John de Withington and Richard, son of Lawrence, and Roger de Toft, and the moiety of Tunsted, and the moiety of Wheltrough which Henry de Weverham held, as well as all of Butleigh.
Children of Roger and Mary Davenport were:
Peter, son and heir, d. cir. 1280 without issue
Sir Thomas, Lord of Davenport, living cir. 1280-1320; m. first Agnes de Macclesfield, m. second sometime before 1308, Rosia de Vernon the daughter of Ralph de Vernon and widow of Sir William Brereton.
John, m. Matilda de Rode, daughter of William de Rode; had lands in Withington; had son named Richard
