• Background Information. 782
Robert, Count of Mortaigne or Robert de Burgh, Count of Mortaigne, in Normandy, the son of Herleva or Arletta and Herluinus de Burgh, and the half brother of William the Conqueror. Robert was made the Earl of Cornwall soon after the conquest. He held 793 manors, 249 in cornwall and 454 in seventeen other counties. He married Matilda, the youngest daughter of Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Shrewsbury. He was also a great benefactor to the abbey of Gestein, in Normany. He died in 1091.

Herluin married Herlève de Falaise, daughter of Fulbert de Falaise and Unknown. (Herlève de Falaise was born about 1003 in Falaise, Calvados, Normandy, France, died about 1050 and was buried in Abbey St. Gre, France.)
