bullet  Information about this person:

• Background Information. 1051
From Memorials of the Bagot Family, p. 6:

"It has long appeared a matter of doubt who the Hervey Bagot was, that, in the reign of Richard I, married Milicent de Stafford, sister and sole heir to Robert the last Baron Stafford. Hervey Bagot is always styled a younger House of Bagot, but whether of Bagot's Bromley or of Hyde has seemed doubtful to many Antiquarians. Erdeswick thinks he was of Bagot's Bromley, Mr. Chetwynd endeavors to prove that he was of Hyde, and Sir William Dugdale only styles him, "A Gentleman of ancient family in those parts." After the most attentive and repeated examination of every document bearing upon the subject of this Hervey Bagot's descent, it is evident, almost to demonstration, that he must have been the Brother of Simon Bagot, of Bromley; and consequently, like him, in the third generation from Bagot, who held that manor at the time of the Domesday Survey.

• Background Information. 784
Simon de Bagot, was the great grandson of Bagod, referred to in the Domesday book as, Dominus medietatis Bramele, who held Bramele of Robert de Stafford. Simon de Bagot possessed the same estates of Bromely, as appears by the following deed: "Sciant tam presentes et futuri quod ego Rads. de Mutton et heredes mei quietum clamavimus Simoni Bagot et heredibus uis in perpetuum omne me et omnem clameus quot ego et heredes mei habuimus versus eundem Simonem et heredes suos in villa de Bromleg pro duobus marcia de argento et uno puncino de precio unius marce quo predictus Simo mihi dedit. Hijs testibus Hervio Bagot Herveio herede suo-cum multis alijs." It likewise appears, by several deeds recited in the pedigree, that this Simon had two sons: Sir Hugh, his heir; and Sir William, who differences his arms by bearing the field Argent, and left a son and heir Henry.
