Gilbert de Neville witness in 1142, the foundation charter of Revesby Abbey, a chart of Ranulph, Earl of Chester and a notification in 1160-1162, by Robert Earl of Leicester, of his tenure at Knighton under the Bishope of Lincoln. In 1166, he held 5 knights feew of the Bishop of Lincoln, and 4 of the honor of Manaster Arsic. Between 1150 and 1160, he granted to Kirkstead Abbey land in Great Surton, Lincs. with the goodwill of his son and heir, Geoffrey, and consent of the Bishop of Lincoln. Between 1156-1166, he was founder, with his brother Alan of Tupholme Abbey, the site being their join gift. Gilbert gave them other land, and the churces of St. Peter and Burreth and St. Peter of Rasen. He was dead in 1169.

~Boyer's The Medieval English Ancestors of Robert Abel, 185, flourished from 1142, at time he had witnessed the foundation charter of Revesby Abbey. He was alive in 1156-1166, while he and his brother alan jointly founded tupholme Abbey.
