• Background Information. 719 Mabel, who married Roger de Montgomerie in 1048, was the daughter and heiress of William de Talvas, Cout of Bellême and Alençon. These lands became part of his lands in Normandy. Mabel was killed by Hugh Seigneur de la Roche Igé, of whom Mabel had deprived of his castle. On the night of 2 Dec 1082, Hugh entered her chamber at the Châtequ de Bures, on the Dive, near troarn, and killed her with his sword. Her mutilated body was buried three days after the convent of Troarn. Her murder and his brothers left Normandy, and were never caught by Mabel's sons who pursued them. ~A Genealogical History of the Family of Montgomery, pg. 20
