James was some time of Watertown, MA.; removed to Fairfield, CT., where thirteen parcels of land are recorded to "James Beere" from 1659 to 1684. He died in Fairfield in 1694, where, and at Stratford, descendants are still found. The number of his descendants, mostly in Connecticut, is comparatively small, among whom is the late Hon. Seth P. Beers, of Litchfield, CT. The name occurs variously in the early records, both in Massachusetts and Connecticut, as Bere, Beere, Beare, and Beeres. It finally became Beers, and continues thus.

James came to Watertown, Massachusetts as a youth in 1635 with his uncle.
He was an early settler at Southport, Connecticut, and he subsequently became one of the largest landholders at Fairfield

James Beers was an early settler at Sasquag, where the was presented with eight acres of land from the Indians, which. In 1669, he recorded eighteen acres on the west side of Sasco River, which was confirmed to him by the town 10 Feb 1661. He became one of the largest land-holders in Fairfield.

James married Martha, daughter of John Barlow, and they had several children. In his will dated 14 Nov 1694, he provided for his wife Martha and gives his son Joseph all the rest of his estate as long as he provided for support of his mother Martha. To his daughter, also named Martha and wife of Joseph Bulkley, he left fifteen pounds. To his daughter Deborah who was married to Samuel Hull, he left twenty-three pounds. Tho his daughter Elizabeth, the wife of John Darling, he also left twenty-three pounds. He confirmed to the children of his deceased son, also named James, lands he had deeded to their father. To his eldest gradson, David Beers, he left his wolv'es sawmp and Paul's Neck division.

James married Martha Barlow, daughter of John Barlow and Ann Ward, about 1659 in Fairfield, Connecticut. (Martha Barlow was born about 1632 in England) ,304 and died on 27 Mar 1698 in Fairfield, Connecticut 208.)
