In 1135, "Eugenia Picot, who was the daughter of Ralph Picot of Kent, ant eh wife of Thomas Fitz Bernard, is of the gift of the lard king, and is thirty years old. She has in the hundred of Radfield a certain manor which is worth £25 per annum, and is of the fee of Gilbert Malet: William Malet gave the said manor to the said lady in dower. And she had three sons of Thomas Fitz Bernard and one daughter: the eldest son is ten years old, the middle one eight, the third three years. The lord king gave the daughter to the son of John de Bidun." [Pipe R. Soc., Totuli de Dominabus et Pueris et Puellis, p. 87] A few years later Eugenia ofter the king £80 for the custody of her son John and his land.
