Gilbert de Scarisbrick
was succeeded, probably before 1238, by his son Walter, who, like his father, was a benefactor to Cockersand, granting an acre of his demesne. Walter also added to the endowments of Burscough by grants in Harleton, Gorsuch, and Scarisbrick. According to the register of Burscough Priory Walter was twice married, and by a certain Edusa he had a son Richard, sometimes called 'son of Edusa,' and sometimes 'son of Walter.'
