In 1086, Robert de Vallibus held Pentney in Norfolk under Roger le Bigod and there he founded a Priory of Black Cannon which he dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. His son, Robert de Vallibus made a grant to the Priory of Castleacre in Norfolk, of a mill and meadow in Pentney.
