• Background Information. 877
After the Norman Conquest, the manor of Tateshall became lands of Ilbert de Lacy. William the Conqueror had given vast tracts of lands in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire to Ilbert de Lacy. Little is known about Ilbert, and there are no records of his rule over his extensive dominions, nor his death. His successor was Robert de Lacy.
