Simón was the son-in-law of Juan López Holguín and Catalina de Villañanueva. He was born in Ciudad Rodrígo. He was dead by 1622. He married María Ortiz in Santa Fé. María was also dead by 1622.

Their daughter, María de Abendaño, was their only child. She married Diego de Vera in 1622, and later married Antonio de Salas.

Simón de Abendaño was born in Ciudád de Rodrígo on the border of Portugal and Spain and emigrated to the New World and then to New México during the 1600s or 1610s. The name Abendaño has a history of association with Jewish families in Spain.

Among Sephardic Jews with the name Abendaño, there are records of Abendanno as selling sheep and goats to the city's slaugter house in Murcia in 1469. Also in 1469. Mose Abendanno was apprehended along with many other armed Jews attempting to enter the Moorish quarter of the city in search of one of Mose's servants.

Herónimo Abendaño and his wife Beatríz Riquelme are listed on the 1660 census of Lorco Spain. They lived next door to Juan de Osca Alzamora and Juliana Real de Aguilar who were parents of a New Méxican ancestor, Alonso Rael de Aguilar.

Simón married María Ortiz, daughter of Juan López Olguín Villasaña and Catalina de Villanueva, about 1605 in San Gabriel, Rio Arriba, Nuevo Méjico, Nueva España.252 (María Ortiz was born about 1588.)
