José Sánchez came to New Mexico with Diego de Vargas in 1693. He came with his father, Jacinto Sánchez, and mother, Ysabel Téllez Girón.

José Sánchez and his wife Teresa Jaramillo had three known children: Jacito II, who married Efigenia Chávez in 1732; María Gertrudis, born on July 20, 1731; and Juan, who is probably the man who married Barbara Gallegos.

José Sánchez appeared before Juan Gonzales concerning his father, Jacito Sánchez's property. He asked that Juan Gonzales Bas compel his brothers to pay their father's debts in order to keep the land or else withdraw their rights. Those who were owed debts from Jacinto Sánchez testified. The witnesses were Matías Romero, Cristobal Varela & José Salas along with masons, Nicolas Durán and Felipe Berela, who appraised the work in the amount of 150 pesos. Jacinto Sánchez died on 22 Dec1734. By 22 Mar 1735 all debts had been paid, and all parties were satisfied.
