Balderston and Osbalderston were held as one manor of the honor of Clitheroe in thegnage by yearly service of 6s. and one sore sparrow hawk or 2s. [Lancs. Inq. & Extents, i. 217]. Hugh, living about the middle of the 12th century, was the father of Ailsi, who gave Sunderland Holm to the monks of Sawley about the end of the reign of Henry II [Harl. MS. 112, fol.61b]. This grant was attested to by Ughtred, son of Huck, the ancestor of the Singleton family.
