• Background Information. 151
William Calverley, eldest son of Walter, was born about 1425. He married Agnes, daughter of Sir John Tempest of Bracewell. Walter, his father, made sure to provide for his two younger sons, Thomas and Robert, yet the remainder of the family property was settled on William Calverley and his wife Agnes.

In 1465, William and his brother Thomas were trustees, along with the Earl of Northumberland, Robert Neville, and Thomas Bolling, to land in Byerley conveyed to them by William Tomlinson of Bradford. This property was released by the other trustees to Thomas Calverley in 1466.

In 1467, he arranged for the marriage of his daughter Joan to Christopher, the eldest son of Lawrence Lister. In 1487, William, his oldest son William and his brother Thomas were appointed arbitrators of to settle a dispute as to some lands in Woodhall and elsewhere. His other daughter, whose name is not known, married George Box. His third daughter, Alice was a nun at Esbholt.

William made his will on 12 Apr 1488, and his eldest son William and his brother Robert, plus two others proved it on 4 July 1489. His wife Agnes survived him.

William married Agnes Tempest, daughter of Sir John Tempest Knight & Sheriff of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and Alice Sherburne, in 1441 160.,151 (Agnes Tempest was born about 1448 in Bracewell, Yorkshire, England.)
