The first record of Jacob Hockman, Jr. in Virginia is his signature, along with those of his father, Jacob Hockman, Sr. and his brother, Johannes Hockman on a 1739 petition requesting a separate county west of the Blue Ridge.

Jacob Hackman, Jr. obtained a warrant to survey 230 acres of land in a bend of the North Fork of the Shenandoah on 17 February 1752. He obtained a deed to the tract, which lies on the east side of the river, near present day Woodstock in 1754.

Jacob was named executor of his father's will in 1764 and was still living in August 1765 when the will was probated. However, he refused to serve as the administrator of the will. He was probably living in York County, Pennsylvania at that time. He was a resident of York Township, York County when he bought the late Peter Lehman's land in York Township on 9 May 1767. Jacob and his wife Maria sold this land to Henry Barninger on 1 October 1772 and moved back to Virginia.

Jacob married Mary Denlinger, daughter of Michael Denlinger and Vroni Yoder.460 (Mary Denlinger was born about 1728 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and died after 1785.)
