Matthew de Haydock, the eldest son of Gilbert, had grants of land in Haydock in 1291 from Robert Fitz Thurtan de Holand, and in 1292 and 1296 from William Fitz Thurstan de Holand. By fines 1285 and 1292, settlements were made upon him by his father, the later one including half the manor of Haydock. In 1299, he had a release from his father of all his rights in Haydock. Matthew was succeeded by Sir Gilbert de Haydock, his son and heir.

• Background Information. 826
Matthew de Haydock lived until about 1322 [Raines, loc. cit. 33] since his son Gilbert appears to have been in full possession in 1323. A number of his charters are extant, showing that he acquired fresh properties. The earliest which has a date 1284/5, is by Robert Banastre, lord of Makerfield, to Matthew son of Gilbert de Haydock, granting land in Newton called Galpesch [Raines, loc. cit. 123]. His son Gilbert succeeded.
