Sir William de Staunton, knight, granted freedom to Hugh Travers, and all his progeny, for the reason that the said Hugh assumed the cross for him, and proceeded to Jerusalem. Sir William married Athelina, daughter and coheir of John de Musters, lord of Bosingham, in Lincolnshire, and thereby aquired part of that estate. Sir William was succeeded by his son, Sir Geoffrey de Staunton, Knight.

Thoroton includes the entire poem titled The Staunton's Petygrewe written by a man named Robert Cade on pp. 310-317 which relates to the tombs found in St. Mary's Church where many of the Stauton family were buried. A portion of this poem can also be found in Bank's Baronia Anglica Concentra, Vol. II, pp. 134-135. For Sir William de Staunton:

Sir William Staunton, knight was next,
Dame Athlin was his wife,
Sir Geoffrey Staunton, knight, their heire,
Both voide of vice and Strife.

. . .

Sir William the father is tombed sure
In Stauntons church of olde,
And hath engraved upon his stone,
Verbatim to behoulde:-

"Hic Jacet Willielmus de Staunton, Miles, et Filius Maugeri de Eadem Militis, quo obitt ultimo Maii; cujs animæ propitietur deus, amen."


William married Athelina de Musters, daughter of John de Musters Lord of Bosingham and Unknown 997,1006.,1112
