Alejo Gutiérrez, a soldier in Bernalillo, married María Naranjo, or Hurtado, in 1699; six years previously she had been rescued from Indian captivity, a witness testififed. She was, therefore, the fourteen-year-old girl rescued with her mother, Juana Hurtado, by her uncle Martín Hurtado.

• Background Information.
New Mexico native, Alejo Gutiérrez was the son of Roque Gutiérrez and María de Tapiz. He had a brother named Juan Roque and two sisters, Maria and Isabel. Alejo married María Hurtado in 1699. They had a daugher named Ynéz. Alejo acquired property in Santa and was still serving with the presidio as late as 1713. He died after 1727, most likely in Bernalillo.
