The Bulkeley family is of great antiquity in England, and derives it name from the town of Bulkeley in Cheshire County, where as early as 1200, they were lords of the manner.

Robert de Bulkileh was the lord of the manor of Bulkeley, it is said, and father of William who received a quitclaim from his sisters in 1233. Robert is given three sons, William (living in 1302), Peter, and Thomas.
