Raulfe de Grosvenor

   Another name for Raulfe was Randle le Grosvenor.

~George Ormerod's The History of County Palatine and City of Chester, Vol III, p. 151, the pedigree for Grosvenour of Hulme has Gilbert le Grosvenour, nephew to Hugh Lupus, earl of Chester, as the beginning of the le Grosvenour family. Gilbert's son is named Robert who is followed by Henry, and Henry's son is Ranulfe le le Grosvenour who was alive during the reign of King John of England. ⁷¹³

Raufe le Grosvenor, next in descent after Henry, is said to have engaged in 1141,on the part of his kinsman and local prince Randle II le Grovesnor, in the battle of Lincoln and was taken prisoner in 1143. According to the abbot of Vale Royal, Raufe was the father of Richard le Grosvenor, or Randle by a deed dated 1234 with "filius Ranulfi Grossovenatoris." It is possible that there is another generation here because Raufe Grosvenor was engaged at Lincoln in 1141 and Richard Grosvenor was living in 1269. Collin's in his Collins's Peerage of England; Genealogical, Biographical, and Historical, Volume IX, adds a Robert between Raulfe/Randle and Richard. Ormerod says the deed which calls Richard the son of Randle and the testimony of the abbot negates the possibility of Richard being the son of a Robert. In The Bulkeley Genealogy, Raulfe's position is given to Randle.
