John, the eldest of Richard de Barton's two sons, the second son being Richard, died in his father's lifetime. His brother, Richard, was living in 1457. John left a daugther and heir named Margery. Margery was contracted to marry Ralph Astson, younger son of Sir John Ashton, in 1493. The agreement for this marriage was made between Margery's uncle, Richard Barton, and Sir Thomas Ashton, brother of Ralph Aston. Richard was to settle £100 a year of his lands on Margery in fee. Margery is described as 'cousin and heir apparent' of Richard, and was under fourteen years of age at the time.

Roger de Middleton died before 16 Edward II (1322), leaving his wife Agnes and six daughter, his coheiresses. Of his daughters, Matilda, or Maud, was the eldest and the wife of John Barton of Fryton in Rydale, in North Riding, Yorkshire. Their son was Ralph, who died seized of the manor of Middleton in 1406. Ralph's son and successor, William Barton of Middleton married Isabella, the daughter of William de Radclyffe. Willaim Radclyffe was alive in 6 Henry V, and his daughter and William Barton married sometime after 44 Edward III. William and Isabella had a son and heir named Richard Barton who was alive 6 Sep 9 Henry V. Richard had two sons. One was Richard, who married Alicia, daughter of Sir John Byron of Clayton, who was alive 5 Edward IV. The other son, John Barton, married Margaret, daughter of Sir Nicholas Byron, Knight. Margery, the only daughter of John and heiress of Richard Barton, married sometime after 15 April 17 Henry VI, to Sir Ralph Assheton. Sir John Assheton was the son of Sir John Assheton of Assheton by his second wife, Margaret, daughter of Sir John Byron of Clayton, Knight.
