Keats-Rohan, Domesday People I:180-181, 455- 456, calls Richard Fitz Ponz the nephew, not brother of Drew and Walter, sons of Pons, which would likely make Simon their nephew as well. This would make Simon's father Pons the brother of Drew and Walter.

Before the Norman Conquest Lower Swell was part of the estate belonging to Ernesi, and in 1086 it was divided between two tenants in chief, Ralph de Tony, who held the larger part and William of Eu. [Dom. Bk. (Rec. Com.), i. 167, 168] The undertenant in 1086, Drew son of Poyntz, was succeeded by his brother (nephew) Simon, to whose grandson Nicholas Poyntz (d. 1222 or 1223) the estate descended. The Clifford family, descendants of Richard son of Poyntz, appears to have had an interest in the estate, but Nicholas Poyntz's grandson Nicholas (d. 1272) [Complete Peerage, x. 669- 73; 'Manor of Tockington, Trans. B.G.A.S. xii. 123-7, 146- 7; Cur. Reg. R. xi, p. 170; Rot. Litt. Claus. (Rec. Com.), i. 629; B.M. Cotton MS. Vesp. B. xxiv, f. 476; B.M. Add. Ch. 7015.] sold the manor of Lower Swell to Richard, Earl of Cornwall and King of the Romans, [C 143/22/22] before 1257.
