• Background Information. 685 Matilda, the second wife of Robert Legh of Adlington, was daughter and choheir of Adam de Norley of North Leigh, in Lancashire, and grand-daughter of Thurstan de Norley. In the Placita Paschć, dated 34 Edward I, the following is found: "Adam de Pemberton brought an action of trespass against Thurstan de Norley, and Matilda, the wife of Adam de Norley, for cutting down and trespassing on his woods in Pemberton."
